Congratulations on taking the first step to seeking therapy and thank you for your interest in You Got This! Counseling Services (YGTCS). I know that searching for a therapist can be a scary and even wildly disappointing process. My goal is to make your experience as smooth and helpful as possible – even if YGTCS is not the best fit for you. Click here to learn more about me. Read on to learn more about what I have to offer.
Please note: this is currently a preliminary site, as YGTCS is not yet operational. I am currently seeking to join a private practice or a non-field work position in an agency in order to finish my hours for my LCSW. If you read this site and think I would be a good fit for your practice or have a lead, please contact me. I am located in Long Beach, California, and am open to becoming licensed elsewhere via teletherapy, if permitted. In the meantime, follow @yougotthiscs on Twitter and @yougotthiscounseling on Instagram.
Why You Got This! Counseling?
I started YGTCS after spending close to a year as a therapist in a federally qualified health center. While there, I worked with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds, ages 7-67, though most of my experience was with young adults and adults (ages 18-50), including members of all LGBTQ+ communities. I also gained a wealth of experience helping trans folx navigate the process of getting surgery letters and transitioning, in general.
Who do I help?
My experience intensified my understanding of the need for services specifically addressing the issues faced by BIQTPOC (Black, Indigenous, Queer, Trans, & People of Color). As such, I am especially intentional about creating space for and being accessible to these communities, even while YGTCS exists to help all for whom the services are a good fit. I am also skilled in addressing the following concerns:
- Major life transitions (especially related to higher education)
- People who are adjusting to being diagnosed with autism & ADHD as adults
- Transition Age Youth (16-24)
- Identifying the role of oppression in:
- PTSD & other trauma disorders
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Bipolar disorder*
- Psychosis/early stage schizophrenia*
*Services for these concerns may require ongoing partnership with a psychiatrist. Referrals are available. I do not automatically pathologize spiritual visitation or similar experiences.
How do I help?
First and foremost, as an Associate Clinical Social Worker, my focus is on understanding the environmental and contextual factors at play in your life. I come to therapy with a trauma-informed and healing-centered perspective and work collaboratively with you on determining what kinds of interventions are best suited for your needs. All services will be rendered online or in-person at my supervisor’s location.
In particular, I have in-depth experience in the following approaches:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
- Narrative Therapy
- Motivational Interviewing
- Problem Solving Therapy
My approach is laid back and can be viewed as “coachy,” meaning I ask questions and provide feedback to help you figure out solutions that will work for your life. I also encourage you to bring your culturally-specific creative and spiritual practices to therapy, so if you want to pull out some tarot cards or discuss how your ancestor frequently visits to talk with you, we can do that!
